Project Description
Anchored by an elegant cedar fence that wraps the property, Laurel and her pup Rocket enjoy an oasis of outdoor living in the center of town. With towering trees and views to the Flatirons, it was essential to preserve the existing sense of place. Laurel wanted to grow the art space in her detached garage into a comfortable and light-filled studio for creativity, healing work and hosting guests. What began as a garage remodel, blossomed into an energy efficient replacement studio that would support year-round living (permitted as an ADU). The building’s form is a nod to the original house. It has sturdy south end providing shelter from the sun and privacy at the street. The north end opens and flows outdoors to patios, wrapped and screened for privacy. Each building component strategically addresses sustainability and performance, including a leading edge electric air-to-water heat pump for radiant floor heat. The living finish materials will weather and change with age, resulting in a timeless and fully integrated extension of Laurel and Rocket’s domain. Photography coming soon!
